The Big Railroads are undertaking a massive advertising and public relations campaign in an effort to block consumer-friendly legislation. The legislation would prevent railroads from abusing their monopoly advantages, which result in higher prices for all Americans on items we buy every day.
The most recent tactic in this campaign is an e-mail letter from a railroad front group – Go21 – asking the reader to sign a letter urging Members of Congress to vote “No” on H.R. 2125, the Railroad Competition and Service Improvement Act. They also ask people to support a multi-billion dollar tax break for the railroads – the very same railroads that are reaping billions in profits.
Make sure you don’t click through and sign this letter. It will be used by the Big Railroads to urge Congress to stop any effort to protect consumers against price gouging, poor service and lack of oversight. Click here to learn the truth about the claims being made by this railroad front group. Click here to learn why it’s important to support H.R. 2125.
Additionally, Go21 is encouraging groups to pass a resolution that supports their tax breaks and that also encourages Congress to reject consumer legislation. Do not support their resolution, which will be used to urge Congress to stop efforts at rail reform. Instead ask your local leaders to support this resolution to encourage Congress to pass legislation bringing much-needed competition into the national rail system.
